Collected in streams in shaddy forest that often are deep with a strong current.

Found in and around shore vegetation.

Water is stained with organic matter associated with palm swamps, which are locally called aguajals after the aguaje palm. Water is always stained with organic matter.

Similiar to the common marbled hatchet fish but with bolder black markings.

Good jumper.

Apistogramma species have been known to attack this specie in the aquarium.
