This small rare tetra is collected in deep streams along the Madre de Dios river near Lago Sandoval. Collected only rarely and usually only one or two fish in a location. Leaf litter and low light levels may be important for this specie as it inhabits areas of dense forested jungle. Water is normally non turbid and stained with organic matter.

Slow swimmer, solitary in the aquarium. Rests in a head-down, slanted position.
