This medium sized tetra is collected in small ponds and lakes that are permanently isolated from the Rio Madre de Dios and Rio Tambopata.

Very fast swimmer and can jump to lateral distances of 2 meters. Feeds near shore in groups mixed with other tetras. Often seen by local people when fishing for piranha.

Delicate when first collected but once acclimated to the aquarium it is a very hardy specie.
